Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) began when several individuals took small, inspired actions to help others in need. One night while watching the evening news, veterans and friends were moved by stories of the first wounded service members returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq. They realized something needed to be done for these brave individuals beyond the brass bands and ticker tape parades. They wanted to provide tangible support for the severely wounded to help them on the road to heal both physically and mentally. What they viewed as a small contribution compared with what the warriors had sacrificed is now WWP’s signature program: WWP backpacks delivered bedside to wounded warriors.
To honor and empower wounded warriors.
To raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service members. To help severely injured service members aid and assist each other. To provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.
Fun, Integrity, Loyalty, Innovation & Service
The newly wounded service members of the current conflicts have unique needs upon returning home. Through the generous donations of private citizens, corporations, and foundations, Wounded Warrior Project offers these heroes a wide range of programs designed to help them in the often difficult and frustrating process of recovering, rehabilitating, and reintegrating into the community. Physical recovery is not enough; these brave individuals need empowerment to succeed and thrive in life after injury. WWP’s programs address the mental, physical and spiritual needs of wounded warriors.
WWP is wholly committed to aiding wounded heroes and easing not only their initial transition to civilian life, but throughout their entire lives as well. We stay focused on our goal by organizing and operating under our ASSURE3 Model of Service, representing a commitment to Advocate, Serve, Support, Unite, Rehabilitate, Educate, Employ, and Empower wounded warriors.
